A time lapse is method of filming where frames are shot much slower than their normal rate, allowing action to take place between frames, and giving the appearance of the action taking place much faster in the finished product; often done for nature filming.
I think that a time lapse is an effective way of showing the passage of time without cutting to a different shot. It helps the film move smoother and is visually stunning!
