Blog has come to an end

It has come to that point in the year where i must put my blog to one side to be assessed by my lecturers.
I have enjoyed my experience blogging as i like going back to previous thoughts and reflecting on them and asking myself why i thought what i did then; having said that i dont personally think blogging is for me as i have trouble with consistency and dont always remember to document things that i enjoy or find important. I can honestly say i have slacked with this assignment but i did give it a try! Blogging just isn't for everybody!

Youtube community - A way of life

YouTube has come a long way since the very first videos of asian boys miming the backstreet boys were uploaded. YouTube is now a culture and a community of millions of people all trying to make people laugh, cry, smile, scared and more. They say all the worlds a stage, well YouTube now is the place where anyone can perform, and oh do they use this to there advantage.
Some people vlog about their everyday lives to give other people an insight into their life and some people even base their relationships around YouTube.
Theres no wonder why YouTube is now one of the most popular words/things on the planet right now.

Game

My idea for a game is this:

Farmville meets cooking mama with a twist.
A touch screen interactive work surface such as a desk a counter etc. that plays an app that is essentially a cooking game where you use the touch screen to farm your crops, prepare the food and then finally cook it. The narrative of the game is: You are a novice farmer/cook that wants to be the best they can possibly be in that field, you start from the very basics which is growing your own crops then as you gain experience (points) and level up you start to unlock more features such as new dishes to make, new food to grow, critic exams which are challenges where you have to cook a perfect meal to get bonus points. Once you get to a certain level you unlock online mode where you have 'Cook offs' with other people that have the game using the internet. The online mode cook offs are 1v1 precision and timing tests, the person who can cook the best meal (cut food neatest, cook on the right heat etc) and in the fastest time wins. Your wins will then be put on a highscore board where you can be in constant competition with friends.

There will be a tutorial at the beginning explaining how to play the game and a 'help' section in the options menu for people that still don't fully understand it.

Tension is a big part of this game especially when playing online. As the goal is to be the best you can be and recieve achievements, there will always be a bit of addictive pressure on the player which can only be resolved by achieving the highest score.

The game ends once all the stages of the offline mode are complete along with the in game achievements. Although you will still be able to go back to previous stages and try to best your own highscores if you wish. The farming aspect will still be needed to grow the crops to replay the stages. As for the online mode, when battling another player, the winner of the game will be revealed  as the person with the most points at the end of the battle. When you win a battle your name will come up at the end in in big writing with 'Winner' above it in even bigger writing, the loosers name will be located in the corner of the screen in smaller writing.

I would like the surface to look like this but probably smaller...

The game would be called Chef Harvest and the demographic would be ages 3+ as it is a family game.
I would like the game to be on apple devices but not limited to just them, i have said before i would prefer the game to be on an actual work surface so when you are cooking interactively you are still in the same environment or stance as if you were too cook for real.

John Place - Fake Facebook Friend

Our class was split into groups for an assignment where we had to create an online identity that was completely fake but bring it to life as if they were a real person. My group created a man called John Place who is a 'emo'ish person who hates everything that isnt 'Original' in his eyes, he loathes anything commercial and loves everything dark...

Meet him!

ScreenR/Prezi

I find ScreenR and Prezi interesting to use because i've never experienced anything like them before.
I like all the different things you can do on Prezi and how it can make some of the most mundane tasks enjoyable ...
My Reflection Prezi:

ScreenR was weird to use because im not used to recording myself and then to hear what i actually sound like was a bit depressing but again i enjoy how easy ScreenR is to use and what you can do with it...

Web Design - MahBestestHomeslices

We've been asked to create a website using photoshop and dreamweaver, which is a very grueling process which is going to need a lot of spare time!

I sort of did the process the wrong way though, I created the pages on photoshop and then had to break them up and put them on dreamweaver which was the super LONG way to do it... Thats what you get for not attending Joel!

Person Profile

Our brief is to interview a person and create a short documentary about what that person does, my group chose Stevies dad as he is a fireman and firefighters are pretty interesting!

The whole process went pretty well... or so I heard, I didn't really get to help film any of the final product because of personal reasons and only got to help out with a bit of editing. I was quite annoyed at myself for not participating as much as i could have but hey! we all have problems now and then!

Heres the final product:

Google Map Adventure

For Contempory Media Issues we were asked to create a story using google maps by choosing places on the map that related to your given location.
I was paired with Gemma and decided to do the untold adventures of Christopher Columbus.

I personally think that an adventure narrative would suit this delivery because you can take the audience literally anywhere on the planet and tell a story along the way. Other stories that would suit this particular delivery would be: A mystery narrative as you could start off in one area and solve clues to advance around the world then ultimately reach an end goal. You present a tour of different areas of the world that are of the same genre, an instance of this could be a tour of all the great waterfalls or the largest mountains.

The user would be enticed by the storyline, it is an interesting, original and entertaining sequel to Christopher Columbus' journey in search of a new land. The story itself is humorous and clever which would keep the reader reading.

This person has taken the concept of using google maps for location based narratives and developed it into a useful guide to a massive variety of different informative maps.

Alfred Hitchcocks 'The Birds' - Strangely good!

I have recently watched 'The Birds' by Alfred Hitchcock as i am studying it for an essay and just thought i'd take the time to tell you how weirdly wonderful it is! It's such a strange concept (Birds go crazy and attack the small town of Bodayga Bay) but the use of suspense and sound by Hitchcock really keeps you watching! At one point i noticed my jaw was hurting because I had my teeth clenched due to the intensity!

Deffinatly one to watch guys
