'People on the move' - The first brief

For ‘People on the move’ we had to create a sequence of a character(s) moving from one location to another with a strong narrative throughout. We came up with the idea for the narrative relatively fast (because we’re creative geniuses) which were different people’s daily journeys but shown through their feet.

They say that you can tell a lot about a person by what shoes they’re wearing, our group took this idea tweaked it and used it to our advantage. We thought about the correlation between personality and footwear (e.g. someone that wears smart shoes is probably sophisticated, has a job and maybe in a hurry a lot of the time) then decided on different characters. The idea and the filming were going very well, we got some pretty good shots and good ideas along the way…then editing came along (oh Avid how we hate you).

The editing software (Avid) we were using was confusing, long winded and dated; we hated it with a passion also to add insult to injury at this point we realised we actually didn’t have enough footage to make the narrative strong (this happened once before, we filmed some more but not obviously not enough) but it was a bit too late to go out and film again as the film had to be in on that day which meant we just had to try and make the narrative as clear as possible, add a few epic nicknames in the credits and screen it to the rest of the class.

‘People on the move’ was an arduous experience but definitely one I enjoyed and now I can’t wait to do it again!
